Essential Job Requirements Inventory: DCHS Volunteer Positions

Volunteer positions that involve working directly with animals are highly rewarding, but also involve special safety considerations. Many of us have some degree of physical, mental and/or emotional limitations that can affect our ability to work effectively with animals in a shelter environment. For your safety and that of the animals, it is critical that you be matched with a position that is appropriate given any limitations you may have.

In addition to the basic job description for each position, the following inventory is meant to indicate the essential physical, mental and emotional requirements for our animal care positions. Note that not all requirements will apply to every position. Please check the “YES” or “NO” box next to each to indicate whether or not you meet that requirement. This will help us match you with the appropriate volunteer role as well as identifying areas where we may be able to make accommodations to help you to work safely in a particular volunteer role. If an animal care role is not appropriate for you, we will work to help you find another, equally important, position within our shelter.
