Specifically, the NiR commits to:
- Hold at least four office hour sessions per month (approximately two hours each session) with Yale students, faculty, or staff as they seek to make strong connections in the New Haven community.- Supporting other New Haven residents in accessing opportunities, resources and events within the Yale ecosystem.- Developing or growing a project to benefit their community.
Candidates for this position will be individuals with:
- Substantial experience in, and a deep understanding of New Haven (its neighborhoods, the nonprofit sector, and the socio-politics of the area)- Prior participation in a leadership role in the New Haven community: Neighborhood Watch, Parent Teacher organizations, religious groups etc.- A minimum of 8 consecutive years as a New Haven resident - Initiative and self-motivation- Strong sense of humor
For the 2017-18 program year, the Neighbor in Residence will serve from February 2018 to May 2018 with a $1500 personal stipend along with a $500 seed grant for participants to work on a project in your community.
