A Universe of Possibilities: Summer Writing Competition 2019
• Poetry or prose are accepted.
• Divisions are by grade groups: K-4, 5-8, 9-12 (determined by what grade was just completed)
• 3 judges were picked throughout the community
• Blind Judging: The judges adjudicate each submission without knowledge of the writer’s identity. Please make sure
that your submission does not contain any personal information.
• Submissions will be judged on writing style, originality, creativity, skill, and relation to topic.
• Each submission must be a new, original work written in 2019.

• Prizes will be awarded to the winners of each grade group for both poetry and prose categories.
• Every person who submits their work will receive extra raffle tickets for Lawrenceburg Public Library’s summer
• The work of the winner of each category and grade group will be published by the Beacon and on Lawrenceburg
Public Library’s website.

Category Guidelines:
• Prose Guidelines:
o K-4: 100-500 words
o 5-8: 200-2500 words
o 9-12: 500-5000 words
• Poetry Guidelines:
o Up to 3 poems are accepted. Each poem must not exceed 2 pages.

• Handwritten submissions will be accepted for grades K-4. Submissions must be legible and within 100-500 words.
• All typed submissions must be 12pt font, Times New Roman or Arial, Single-Spaced.
• Typed submissions must be uploaded as .doc, .docx, or .pdf files.

• “A Universe of Stories”-there is a universe of possibilities out there.
