Promoting Innovation in Agriculture: The Dairy Farm
Application form for students interested in participate in the Agro-Innovation Program. Part of the requirements solicited in this application include a copy of your academic transcript, an updated CV, and fill in an online survey. The deadline for applications is September 30, 2018, 11:59 PM.

The program will consist of various activities to expose undergraduate students of different academic fields (Animal Science, Business Administration, Biology, Agro Business, Electronic, and different Departments of Engineer) to real agricultural challenges, as a first step, the Dairy Industry.
Only students from the 2nd academic year or above with competitive academic performances and extracurricular experiences will be considered.

First activity: a 2 days Agro-Innovation Challenge (October 13 and 14)

Oct 13: A field day at a highly innovative dairy farm.
• Students will meet and form teams of 5 (interdepartmental).
• Presentations will be provided to teams: the Agro-Innovation Program, Available Spaces at Participating Universities
and the Puerto Rican Dairy Industry
• Teams will be presented with 5 Dairy Farm Challenges.
• Teams will select one (maximum of two teams per challenge) with the goal of developing a solid prototype.

Oct 14: Conference Day: Business Center Room at the Business Administration building, UPRM.
• Teams will be provided with conferences and workshops related to marketing, design thinking, problem finding,
and other topics to help teams start organizing their ideas towards validation and prototyping of their respective
challenges.

Second Activity: Development and validation of team’s prototypes (October 2018 – June 2019)
• A period of 8 months will be provided to teams to develop their prototypes.
• Teams will have access to the different UPRM Development Centers, Laboratories and Innovation Spaces, counseling
from different faculty members and funding for acquisition of materials/equipment to build, test and validate their
prototype.

Third Activity: Agro-Innovation Hackathon (June 2019)
• Each team will have the opportunity to present their prototypes to a board of judges.
• The first 3 places will be granted with $1,500, $1,000 and $500, respectively.
• Additional counseling will be provided to the top three teams towards marketing of their prototypes.
