At the beginning of 2021, the Auburn community lost two great men who devoted much of their careers to promoting a healthy and active community. Jim Courtney and Steve Komanecky, who both passed within two days of each other, were long-time colleagues at the Auburn YMCA as well as great friends. Both men cared greatly about the youth of Auburn and were involved with many events such as The Great Race, The Downtown Mile, The Soap Box Derby, Auburn Little League, and many more. Their influence in the community and dedication to the city of Auburn will forever be remembered.
In honor of Jim and Steve, their sons Chris Courtney, Stephen, & Casey Komanecky have partnered with the Auburn YMCA to create a scholarship for a male AND a female senior at Auburn High School.
Jim & Steve always gave back to the community and we’d like to continue to give back.
Each senior will receive a $1,500 scholarship.
The scholarship committee is searching for applicants who are graduating seniors in June 2021 and have been involved with the betterment of the Auburn community.
