Meetings and events of Friends of Dorothy are open to any and all individuals who support our mission and vision. There is a distinction, however, between participation as a supporter and participation as a member. The biggest distinction is only members have the right to vote in the organization.

Before filling out this application, a person must have attended at least one (1) regular meeting of Friends of Dorothy. Membership is open to any individual who resides in Noble or contiguous counties and supports the mission of Friends of Dorothy and its values.

Friends of Dorothy has adopted a special "Member Code" which lays out the basic qualifications, rights, responsibilities, and conduct expectations for members. You are required to agree to the provisions of this code (furnished below) in order for your application to be processed.

Enrollment Requirements, Rights, and Responsibilities

Membership shall be open to any individual who resides in Noble or contiguous counties and supports the mission of Friends of Dorothy and its values.
To qualify for membership, a person must have attended at least one (1) regular meeting of FoD prior to submitting their application.
Upon filling out an application, new members shall be admitted by simple majority vote of the membership on the question to “admit [applicant’s name] to Friends of Dorothy.”
At time of admittance and on the anniversary for the same, members shall be encouraged – but not required – to make a voluntary donation to Friends of Dorothy for “dues.”
Members shall have the right to participate in all activities of Friends of Dorothy and shall have full parliamentary rights at meetings of the membership.
Members are obliged to abide by all policies, rules, and regulations approved by Friends of Dorothy and to abide by the Member Code of Conduct.
A member may resign at any time by issuing notice of their resignation to contact@noblecountylgbt.org. Unless specified otherwise in the notice, resignation will be received as effective immediately.
Members who violate their obligations to Friends of Dorothy may be subject to disciplinary proceedings which may result in adverse action up to and including expulsion.

Member Code of Conduct

To qualify for admittance, you must agree to the following. Please read and "check" the boxes next to each line to paragraph agreement.

Respect. I will treat all members and participants with respect, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, age, ability, or any other characteristic.

Professionalism. I will conduct myself in a professional manner at all times, both online and offline, when representing Friends of Dorothy and will refrain from engaging in behavior that could harm the reputation or mission of Friends of Dorothy.

Group Confidentiality. I will respect the confidentiality of sensitive information shared within Friends of Dorothy. I understand that the meaning of “confidential information” is any information that has not already been made available to the public through official public channels.

Outing. I shall not disclose the sexual orientation, gender identity, or “queer-ness” of any person to any person without the former’s consent unless said person is out publicly or has otherwise given permission. Given that some members may participate in a covert fashion for any number of reasons including to protect their safety, I shall not “out” other members or participants to non-members unless said information is already public knowledge or with the explicit permission of the person involved.

Compliance with Policies. I will adhere to all policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and guidelines set forth by Friends of Dorothy.

Support. I will support my fellow members and come to the aid of members who are in distress.

Participation. I will participate in Friends of Dorothy to the extent that my schedule permits and will actively work in furtherance of Friends of Dorothy’s mission and vision.

Dissent. Disagreement and debate proving essential to good outcomes, I commit to both express dissent freely and openly and furthermore agree to respect others’ right to do so. I will endeavor to approach all issues of conflict with complete respect toward other parties with an open mind and heart.

Unity. I commit to respecting group decisions and playing my part in supporting projects and actions undertaken by the authority of the membership. This does not preclude conscientious abstention.
