Election Requests (2020)
Lenapehoking Lodge is now accepting election requests from Northern New Jersey Council Scouts BSA Troops, Venture Crews, and Sea Scout Ships. To be valid elections must be led by a Lodge sanctioned election team from outside the unit. Elections are coordinated and scheduled by a youth member of your local chapter (district) and are held at a unit meeting only.

Details about Lodge Elections can be found at http://bit.ly/LodgeIXElections

THE 2019 ELECTION SEASON RUNS FROM JANUARY 1, 2020 THROUGH APRIL 15, 2020. EXCEPTIONS TO THAT SCHEDULING WINDOW REQUIRE THE APPROVAL OF THE LODGE ADVISER AND LODGE VICE CHIEF OF UNIT RELATIONS. EXCEPTIONS WILL NOT BE GRANTED

As per the new rules from OA National, LODGE ELECTIONS ARE NOW OPEN TO ALL TROOPS, SHIPS, AND VENTURE CREWS IN COUNCIL. In order to accommodate the need to hold additional elections, we require that ALL ELECTIONS REQUEST MUST BE SUBMITTED TO THE LODGE NO LATER THAN JANUARY 10, 2019. This is required in order to allow the Lodge youth leadership enough time to find election teams to visit every unit wanting an election.

Questions regarding unit elections should be directed to:

Owen Kasmin, Lodge Vice Chief Unit Relations (vc-unitrelations@oaix.nnjbsa.org)
Jimmy Kelly and Will Ryan, Ramapo Valley Chapter Chiefs (chief-ramapovalley@oaix.nnjbsa.org)
AJ Rosenberger and Leo Park, Three Rivers Chapter Chief (chief-threerivers@oaix.nnjbsa.org)
Dan Goldsmith, Lenape Trail Chapter Chiefs (chief-lenapetrail@oaix.nnjbsa.org)

Thank you.

Unit Membership Information
Please provide the number of registered active members of your unit (including current members of the OA) who can vote in the election. (50% of this number must be present on election night to conduct an election)

Then provide the number of non-OA members who meet the eligibility requirements to be placed on the ballot.

Please note that this information is for planning purposes only and can be changed any time up until the election is actually held. The information supplied here will be validated both by the person scheduling the election and on the night of the election team by the election team itself. However, it is beneficial that the preliminary information provided be as accurate as possible at this time. Thank you.
How many registered active members of your unit are ELIGIBLE TO VOTE in the election? *
In Boy Scout troops and Varsity Scout teams, every registered active member of the unit under age 21 at the time of election is eligible to vote in an Order of the Arrow unit election; this includes assistant Scoutmasters and assistant Varsity Scout Coaches who are 18, 19 or 20 years old. A Boy Scout or Varsity Scout who carries a current national membership card and participates in at least some unit activities during the year is considered to be a registered active member of the unit. For example, an assistant scoutmaster away at college who participates in some unit activities when home, such as campouts, camporees, or occasional unit meetings, should be considered a registered active member. A youth who moves away or drops out of the unit because of other interests would not be counted in the registered active membership figure.
Your answer
How many registered active members of your unit meet the qualifications TO BE PLACED ON THE ELECTION BALLOT? *
1. A Boy Scout or Varsity Scout who holds the First Class rank or higher, is under the age of 21, and is registered as an active member of the troop or team may, with the approval of his unit leader, be nominated for election. Prior to the annual election, the unit leader must certify the nominee’s Scout spirit and youth membership qualifications (NOTE - This approval CANNOT be rescinded once the name is placed on the ballot and the election begins). 2. The youth must have experienced 15 nights of Boy Scout camping while registered with a troop or team within the two years immediately prior to the election. The 15 nights must include one, but no more than one, long-term camp consisting of at least five consecutive nights of overnight camping, approved and under the auspices and standards of the Boy Scouts of America. Only five nights of the long-term camp may be credited toward the 15-night camping requirement. The balance of the camping (10 nights) must be overnight, weekend, or other short-term camps of, at most, three nights each.

Unit Scheduling Information
Please provide your chapter with three different dates on which an election can be conducted and document any special circumstances that should be taken into consideration in scheduling the election. Note that sometimes the resources to conduct multiple elections on the same night are limited. Therefore priority is given to those requests received earlier in the scheduling queue. But scheduling is dependent on the availability of youth from outside your unit to conduct the election and their ability to get transportation to and from the election.
