Biosolids Quality Assurance Scheme survey
IDENTIFICATION OF STAKEHOLDERS EXPECTATIONS

Biosolids land application allows the recovery of nutrients but also the supply of organic matter to the soils and therefore carbon sequestration.
Nevertheless it is necessary to enhance stakeholders confidence in this outlet.
The European Federation for Agriculture Recycling (EFAR) is currently developing a quality assurance scheme in this respect.
The first stage of this approach is to determine third parties expectations regarding the criteria that should be part of this scheme.
Thanks in advance for your contribution to this survey.

Do you think that the development of a Quality Assurance Scheme at EU level could enhance stakeholders confidence in Biosolids land application ?
Clear selection
Should Biosolids final user be informed of the legal conditions* according to which the Biosolids are applied on land (permit and or regulation reference) ?

* These informations would appear on the different documents sent by the Biosolids producer to the final user.
Clear selection
Would there be any interest to expand the list of contaminants which have to be monitored in Biosolids (Cf. sludge Directive) and to set up associated values on a risk assessment approach.
Clear selection
If you answered yes to the above question could you specify which contaminants are of the most concern to you.
Should the frequencies at which biosolids are analyzed  be defined ?
Clear selection
Should the Biosolids analysis be carried out by accredited labs under standardized methods ?
Clear selection
Should the Biosolids be managed per batch* ?

* A batch is corresponding to a quantity of Biosolids produced by a certain period of time and for which an analysis result is available.
Clear selection
Should there be provisions to manage properly Biosolids permanent and temporary storage ?
Clear selection
Should the environmental suitability* of the landbank  be assessed before the first Biosolids land application ?
* Identification of sensitive areas such as wells, rivers, dwellings, shallow soils, .....
Clear selection
Do Biosolids deliveries have to be weighed on a regularly calibrated equipment (weighbridge)?
Clear selection
Should the transport operations from the Biosolids production plant to the final user holdings be subject to traceability ?
Clear selection
Should the spreading operations  be subject to traceability ?
Clear selection
Should the different contractors* involved in the Biosolids land application program be evaluated by the final users ?
* Laboratories, biosolids advisor, haulier, spreading operator, ........
Clear selection
Should a Nutrient Management Plan* be established with the Biosolids final user ?
* Calculation of Biosolids spreading rate to balance nutrients inputs with crop requirements.
Clear selection
Should there be soil analysis to monitor the impact of Biosolids land application ?
Clear selection
If you consider that there is significant or high added value for soil monitoring please specify for which parameter(s).
Should the staff in charge of the Biosolids management  program have to justify of specific skills ?
Clear selection
Should there be an emergency procedure to deal with the major risks arising from Biosolids land application ?
Clear selection
Should a communication program be established to deliver appropriate information to third parties ?
Clear selection
Should there be a specific procedure for data collection  management and reporting ?
