Thank you for your interest in serving on the Southeast Regional STEM Advisory Board.
The Iowa Regional STEM Network is a system of
six geographic areas strategically positioned across Iowa. The purpose of the Regional STEM Network is to provide broader access to science, technology, engineering and mathematics educational opportunities and promote STEM economic development within regions and across regions.
Guidance for each Regional STEM Network will be provided by a Regional STEM Advisory Board. Volunteers with the six Regional STEM Advisory Boards shall be appointed by STEM Council co-chairs in conjunction with the STEM Council executive director.
A Regional STEM Advisory Board appointee must either reside or be employed in the STEM region in which they serve.
Appointees with the Regional STEM Advisory Boards will serve staggered three-year terms and may serve a total of three full 3-year terms, unless special permission for extended terms is approved. A Board appointee who has served three full 3-year terms may reapply for a regional board after one year.
Terms will begin on July 1 and end on June 30.
This is a voluntary position and no compensation is provided.
Regional STEM Advisory Board appointees will:
- Convene regularly under the direction of the Regional STEM Manager to guide activities of the Regional STEM Network.
- Guide the Regional STEM Manager in developing, implementing, maintaining and promoting a seamless and collaborative communication system with other Iowa STEM Regions for open and continuous sharing and development of resources, opportunities and promising practices, particularly those that span Regions.
- Aid the Regional STEM Manager in creating and maintaining a comprehensive catalog and asset map of STEM activities and resources within each STEM Region that is shared and promoted.
- Help to serve as the “voice” of and for STEM in all meetings and venues within a STEM Region, assisting the Regional STEM Manager in convening region-wide dialogs to build awareness, interest and shared advocacy of STEM-related activities and opportunities.
- Assist the Regional STEM Manager in promoting STEM Council programs, advancing the STEM cause in Iowa by communicating through existing networks/colleagues and fostering the involvement of businesses and schools in the STEM Region to help advance STEM education.
- Volunteer to serve on working groups and/or review teams for STEM program proposals.
- Guide the Regional STEM Manager in building an inventory of STEM initiatives in the STEM Region and contribute to discussions of regional gaps and needs, as well as explore and develop initiatives to address those needs.
- Assist the Regional STEM Manager in measuring all STEM initiatives and goals regionally and contribute to a statewide STEM expansion process.
- Contribute expertise to the implementation of programs at the community and regional level under guidance from the Regional STEM Manager and the Governor’s STEM Advisory Council.
