2026 KSSB Family Activity Box                  2026 KSSB Caja de actividades familiares
It's time to register for the Kansas State School for the Blind (KSSB) Family Activity Boxes (FAB boxes).  The boxes will contain fun and engaging ways to practice skills within the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC).

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: November 6, 2026

WHO IS ELIGIBLE: Children/students, Infancy through high school graduation, living in the state of Kansas and diagnosed with a visual impairment that impacts their ability to access print materials.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Due to a visual impairment, the student uses braille, large print, or a digital format for learning.  Your child also meets the eligibility criteria for visual impairment from the Kansas Department of Education:    Blindness/Visual Impairment: An impairment in the visual system that, even with correction, adversely affects a child's educational performance.

BOX DESCRIPTIONS: Please make a note of the descriptions to answer the question related to the specific box you would like shipped to your home.

Box 1: Roll Into Learning! This box takes you on an exciting exploration of motion and movement. Included in the box is the book Oscar and the Cricket, which explores how things move and roll, as well as a bumpy sensory ball for hands-on, multi-sensory discovery. Instructions and ideas for parents to extend learning and encourage family engagement are also included. This box is recommended for ages birth - age 6 or equivalent.

Box 2: Take to the Skies! This box takes you on an exciting STEM adventure into aerodynamics and buoyancy. Included in the box are six hands-on activities that fly or float, perfect for multi-sensory discovery and family enjoyment. Instructions and ideas for parents to extend learning and encourage engagement are also included. This box is recommended for ages 5 - 18.

Braille and tactile elements will be included in all boxes. If full braille instructions are needed for parents that are blind, please let us know.  

To make sure the box will address your child's unique needs, complete the next few questions. We may contact you by phone or email if we have any questions about adapting the contents of the box for your child.

FECHA LÍMITE DE INSCRIPCIÓN: 6 de noviembre de 2026

QUIÉN ES ELEGIBLE: Niños/estudiantes, desde la infancia hasta la graduación de la escuela secundaria, que vivan en el estado de Kansas y hayan sido diagnosticados con una discapacidad visual que afecte su capacidad para acceder a materiales impresos.

CRITERIOS DE ELEGIBILIDAD: Debido a una discapacidad visual, el estudiante utiliza braille, letra grande o un formato digital para el aprendizaje.  Además, su hijo cumple los criterios de elegibilidad para discapacidad visual del Departamento de Educación de Kansas:    Ceguera/discapacidad visual: Un impedimento en el sistema visual que, incluso con la corrección, afecta negativamente el rendimiento educativo de un niño.
*Nota: es posible que se solicite documentación para determinar la elegibilidad.

DESCRIPCIONES DE LAS CAJAS: Tome nota de las descripciones para responder a la pregunta relacionada con la caja específica que desea que le enviemos a casa.

Caja 1: ¡A rodar hacia el aprendizaje! Esta caja te lleva a una emocionante exploración del movimiento. Incluye el libro Oscar y la grilla (o Oscar y el grillo), que explora cómo se mueven y ruedan las cosas, así asombrosamente con una pelota sensorial con relieves para un descubrimiento táctil y multisensorial. También se incluyen instrucciones e ideas para los padres con el fin de ampliar el aprendizaje y fomentar la participación familiar. Esta caja se recomienda para edades desde el nacimiento hasta los 6 años o equivalente.

Caja 2: ¡A volar muy alto! Esta caja te lleva a una emocionante aventura STEM sobre la aerodinámica y la flotabilidad. Incluye seis actividades prácticas que vuelan o flotan, perfectas para el descubrimiento multisensorial y el disfrute en familia. También se incluyen instrucciones e ideas para los padres con el fin de ampliar el aprendizaje y fomentar la participación. Esta caja se recomienda para edades de 5 a 18 años.

En todas las cajas se incluirán elementos en braille y táctiles. Si los padres invidentes necesitan instrucciones completas en braille, háganoslo saber.
