Public Input Survey - Sanback Dam Removal & Rose City Park Spaces

Huron Pines and the City of Rose City are seeking input from the community on desired park features in Metcalf Park and Cleveland Park in Rose City. With the planned removal of Sanback Dam in Metcalf Park, there is an opportunity to incorporate the community’s vision for the surrounding park area into the project designs and fundraising efforts. Your input will also support Rose City’s Five-Year Recreation Plan by generating public feedback to inform planning and potentially help secure funding for implementation of desired features and amenities in these shared spaces.

Sanback Dam has been inspected by Michigan EGLE Dam Safety Program and is considered a “significant hazard structure” in “unsatisfactory condition”, which means action must be taken to address safety concerns and to protect downstream property, infrastructure, and aquatic organisms like trout from the potential of a dam failure event. Huron Pines is now working with Rose City and GEI Consultants to develop designs and secure permits for the dam removal and associated stream and wetland restoration. The design phase is funded by Michigan EGLE-Dam Risk Reduction Grant Program, Saginaw Bay Watershed Initiative Network (WIN), and the Mershon-Neumann Chapter of Trout Unlimited. Now is the best time to gather input from you so that we can build desired park features into these plans and permits, which will also help to access potential grant funding to realize this vision.

A community visioning event was held in Rose City on February 6th to gather ideas from community members like you. This survey provides an opportunity for people that were unable to attend the February 6th meeting (or that attended the event and would like to provide additional comments) to;

  1. Share their thoughts
  2. Learn about the project
  3. Ask questions

Please complete and submit this survey no later than February 29th, 2024 to ensure your ideas are considered in the designs, permit applications, and fundraising efforts. It should take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

If you have questions about the project please contact Josh Leisen, Senior Project Manager for Huron Pines by emailing josh@huronpines.org or calling (989) 448-2293, ext. 16.

Thank you,
