Sponsored in collaboration with Crafting the Future, GlassRoots and UrbanGlass
The 2024 Glass Art Internship is a 12 - 15 week, paid internship, designed to increase the participation of those self-identified as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) in the field of glass art.
This internship aims to:
Train participants in glass-art making including, but not limited to, glassblowing, flamework and kilnforming.
Expose participants to and train in the various departments and roles within a glass-art educational organization, including development, programs, recruitment, marketing and technical/studio assistance through a lead project.
PLEASE NOTE: Persons of all abilities are encouraged to apply. It should be noted, however, that glass art making requires manual dexterity and upper body strength. It includes processes that will require the ability to lift a certain amount of weight, but generally we are able to create tasks for people with a wide range of abilities in the studio. Additionally, glassblowing requires a high tolerance to heat.
To be considered, participants must:
be 18 - 26 years old as of January 1, 2024
self-identify as a Black, Indigenous or Person of Color
have an interest in learning glass-art making
have the ability to travel to and attend instruction for 4 days in Newark, NJ, and 4 days in Brooklyn, NY each month(or approximately eight hours per week at each location).
