Mitzvah Day 2016 is on Saturday, April 2, from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m., with a reception following at TBO beginning at 4:15. You will receive confirmation and more information about your volunteer assignment prior to April 2.


​Spouses or families who want to work together at one location are encouraged to use just one form for sign-up. In cases where family members wish to participate in Mitzvah Day, but at different volunteer sites, each individual should submit his/her own form.

Here are the current options for Mitzvah Day. We request that each individual or group list their first, second, and third choices (see below.)

Family Sunshine Center

About: The Family Sunshine Center exists to end family violence and sexual assault and foster hope and healing in seven Alabama counties.
Work: Assemble Counseling Center Packets

Friendship Mission

About: Friendship Mission provides shelter for homeless women and children.
Work: To be determined closer to date of service

Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama
About: Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place!
Work: Stuffing envelopes, filing and other similar office type tasks

Service Dogs Alabama
We will meet at our recently purchased property in Hope Hull (about a 10-minute drive on I-65 S from Montgomery)
Work: Come and cook with us! We will have recipes, all ingredients, and baking/storage necessities. The food will be frozen for later use at training conferences and luncheons.

Tails End Thrift Store at Humane Society of Elmore County

About: The Humane Society works to insure the best possible quality of life for animals, to prevent cruelty to animals, to stop pet overpopulation, to strive for the humane care, treatment, and well-being of all animals through education and information and to promote public health and safety in regards to human and animal interaction.
Work: Sort donations and organize clothing racks in thrift store and visit with shelter animals.

House to House

About: The mission of House to House is to partner with Common Ground to transform the Washington Park area and its residents by participating in many forms of neighborhood redevelopment.
Work: Help in remodeling houses. Painting, scraping paint, light landscaping, general clean up at work site.

Hospice of Montgomery

About: Hospice of Montgomery offers physical, spiritual and emotional support to end-of-life patients and their families.
Work: Clerical tasks and art project to make patient gifts

Many congregations host a Mitzvah Day program once a year, or every other year, but this is new to us! If you know of any organizations that we may want to include in future years - or if you have any other suggestions regarding Mitzvah Day - please let us know.
