General Hospitals across the city are going through severe shortage of blood as college students, who form the majority of the donor community are on vacations every summer. We are here with a summer special blood donation drive to help GHs cope up with the daily need of 250 units/day in the months of May, June. A huge number of poor patients undergo treatment in the General Hospitals and unlike us, they do not have social networking to request for blood donors when the required blood bank is not available in blood bank. The GH blood bank relies predominantly on the units from blood camps to meet the daily demand. Quite often the most critical surgeries are postponed due to lack of sufficient blood group for operation. Chrompet GH for example has a severe deficit for blood units and the situation gets too worse at times that even child deliveries are postponed due to shortage of blood. Imagine a lady suffering in labour pain due to delay in arrangements of blood for her operation.

You don’t have to be a doctor to save a life. A few drops of your blood is all it takes to save a life.

Chennai Red Knights (CRK) is the Blood donors’ wing of Chennai Trekking Club. CRK team is actively involved in arranging donors for surgeries, emergency requests and blood camps in Egmore Child Hospital, Rajiv Gandhi G.H and emergency volunteer donor requests for various other private hospitals in Chennai. Based on sheer volunteer support, CRK has coordinated 3500+ units (3500 units = 10,000+ lives saved) so far.
