This form allows new and existing patients to express their interest in receiving free dental care provided by students and faculty at Germanna Community College. The primary purpose of Germanna’s Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene programs is to serve as an educational environment for our students.

- Charting of Oral Conditions
- Assessment and Charting of Periodontal Conditions
- Positioning, Exposing, and Processing of Radiographs
- Dental Treatment Planning
- Oral Health Education and Nutritional Counseling
- Periodontal Scaling
- Root Planing
- Ultrasonic Scaling
- Coronal Polishing
- Air Polishing
- Application of Pit and Fissure Sealants
- Fluoride Treatments
- Application of Chemotherapeutic Agents
- Pain Management
- Placement and Polishing of Amalgam & Tooth-colored Restorations
- Cleaning Removable Appliances and Prostheses
- Placement of Crowns and Bridges
- Evaluation of Dental Services
The dental students receive the necessary training during classroom and preclinical/laboratory sessions before assisting and/or performing these services on patients. All the services that are listed above are provided to patients in the Dental Programs Teaching Clinic.
These services are taught to the level of clinical competence which means the students receive training derived from education and experience received during clinical sessions. These experiences are supervised and evaluated by licensed dentists and dental hygienists who are faculty according to predetermined criteria.
Patients who need additional dental treatment that is beyond the scope of care at this facility will be referred for procedures that cannot be provided by the Dental Programs Teaching Clinic.
