YYLC Winter/Spring 2019 Private Voice Program
Our voice is a musical instrument unlike any other, and each of ours is completely unique and so personal! Students of all ages will learn vocal technique, breathing exercises, musicality, basic theory and delve into improvisation and song writing when ready. My goal is to make students comfortable exploring their voice as well as inspiring a love of music within. We will do emotion exploration and expression with exercise like emotion cats (meow!) or another favorite animal along with other exercises fun for your kid. Students help choose songs he or she wants to sing, while styles will range from musical theater to rock and even opera.
Instructor: Sharlene Simonson
Music has been a huge part of Sharlene's upbringing. She grew up learning piano, clarinet, oboe, kazoo, saxophone and singing harmonies in choir and now teaches private voice lessons and piano. She currently studies opera, rock, and musical theater vocal styles and also sings, plays keyboards and helps compose music in a band called The Family Flaw. She has recorded music and performed in various venues like Hotel Utah, The Hemlock Tavern and Brick and Mortar in San Francisco.
