Classes have always been important to us at YarnCon, but we have been constrained by our size and the size of the space we are in. The show is growing, and we have outgrown our space as far as classes are concerned. This is good news for teachers and students as we introduce a new location for classes, and add two more days to YarnCon! We are calling it The YarnCon Symposium. The best part is that if you are a vendor, you can also teach without having to leave your booth (and othe vendors can actually attend your classes). We have intentionally separated teaching and vending days because vendors and teachers hardly ever get to enjoy what the other has to offer, and we want to remedy that.
On Thursday and Friday, April 2-3, 2020, we will offer classes from 9am to 5pm at the Crowne Plaza, minutes away from the Plumbers Union Hall (where vending will be held as usual on Saturday and Sunday). We will still offer beginning dyeing classes in the kitchen on the first floor on Saturday and Sunday. If you would like to teach introductory spinning and would like to offer it in a public setting (first floor, near the coffee bar) please indicate so on the application below (demonstration style classes at the Plumbers Union are one hour long, and have their own pricing, listed below). All other classes will be scheduled on Thursday and Friday at the Crowne Plaza.
Dates: April 2-3, 2020 YarnCon Symposium at the Crowne Plaza
April 4-5, 2020 dyeing and spinning at the Plumbers Union Hall
We will offer classes that are 2 or 3 hours long on Thursday and Friday. We ask that you be willing to teach more than one class, if possible. We get students with a variety of levels, interested in knitting, crochet, spinning, weaving, all things fiber.
Please remember: This is an application. It does not constitute acceptance. Should you be accepted, the pay structure is as follows.
A minimum fee of $200 for each 3-hour class, such fee to be subject to change based on the number of students enrolled in each class per the following schedule:
10-15 Students: $200 per 3-hour class
16-20 Students: $250 per 3-hour class
A minimum fee of $150 for each 2-hour class, such fee to be subject to change based on the number of students enrolled in each class per the following schedule:
10-15 Students: $150 per 2-hour class
16-20 Students: $200 per 2-hour class
A fee of $80 for a 1-hour demonstration style class (this means you will have registered students, but will be in an area where people might watch), held at the Plumbers Union on Saturday and Sunday, with a maximum of 10 students.
Hotel Accommodations and Travel
Depending on the Teacher's home location, one night of hotel accommodations for each Full Day of teaching (6 hours), and a transportation stipend will be provided if and to the extent appropriate depending on Teacher’s travel needs. We will work with each of you to make the best possible arrangements.
A per diem meal stipend of $40 for each Full Day, and free admission to our Friday night party is also provided.
As for supplies, you may sell kits or materials to your students yourself, or include a list of required items in your class description.

Once classes have been selected, we will notify teachers and we will ask for a brief bio and pictures to promote your class.
