The skillshare program has engaged hundreds of local community members to mentor and support them to 'teach' their skills, and thousands of community members have learnt fun, interesting new skills too - from power tools to beekeeping to pickling to printing to illustration to bush tucker to photography, and everything in between! We are all about inviting people to play, connect in real life, and be inspired by learning.
Our team of volunteers assists with representing Rumpus at each class. This role involves:- assisting teachers to be ready and prepared- setting up the venue and space- greeting participants and checking the booking list- collating feedback cards- problem solving and thinking on your feet!- liaising with our comms officer for photos and content - being a positive, friendly, warm presence for both teachers
Skills required:Confident and warm communication skillsAble to be calm in the presence of nervous teachers!Customer service/ community engagement skillsSome phone photographyReliable, with own transportOccasional lifting and loading/unloading of resources* at times Rumpus volunteers work at large scale one off community events
Volunteers are able to attend and often participate in classes at no expense. Put your hand up as often as you like! A minimum of one class every 2 months is expected for volunteers. Class locations range from Helensburgh to Wollongong, with the occasional workshop happening further south.
