Democrats in the New York State Assembly are blocking a proposal to provide scholarships to family members of U.S. military personnel killed or severely disabled in the line of duty while serving their country.
The legislation (A.2991, Hawley) would pay the costs of tuition, room & board, and fees at a public New York State or City College to the dependent family members of New York service men and women who died, are missing in action, or became disabled while performing official military duties.
On April 9, Assembly Democrats on the Higher Education Committee voted AGAINST bringing the bill to the floor for a vote. In fact before voting against it, the Democratic chair of the committee referred to the Gold Star bill as “an entitlement.” They are deliberately standing in the way of efforts to provide help to the families of America’s fallen heroes.
• New York Democrats approved $27 million in tuition assistance for illegal immigrants.• New York Democrats support providing free college courses to criminals behind bars.• But New York Democrats are REJECTING a plan to expand tuition help for deceased & disabled veterans?
Tell New York Democrats that this is unacceptable. TELL THEM TO PASS A.2991!!!
You can help protect the interests of military personnel and their families and recognize their courageous service and sacrifice. Our military heroes and families must not be treated as an afterthought!
Please sign this petition and demand A.2991 moves to the Assembly Floor for a vote.
