Since 2000, AK Connection has served as a resource for adult Korean Adoptees, their families, and communities in Minnesota. As a non-profit organization led by all Korean Adoptees, we provide cultural, educational, and social programming for our Korean Adoptee community. 

This work would not be possible without community members donating their time, resources, and skills to AK Connection. If you are interested in joining our board, please fill out this form. We're excited to hear from you!

Board Expectations & Commitments
As a team of volunteers, we understand that we may not always be able to fulfill all of our commitments and/or meet all expectations, and that's okay. Life happens, and work, family, and your overall wellbeing come first. With that said, please take this information into consideration as you think about joining AK Connection's board.

Time Commitment    
  • Monthly virtual board meetings: 10-12 times a year, approximately 2 hours each
  • In-person board meetings: 4 times a year, approximately 2 hours each
  • Supplemental board/event meetings: as needed, approximately 1-3 hours each
  • Board retreats: 1-2 times a year, approximately 5-8 hours each
  • Asynchronous work: approximately 1-5 hours weekly
  • Attend events: once monthly, typically Saturday or Sunday, approximately 3-6 hours per event
  • Networking/volunteering: throughout the year, approximately 1-10 hours annually
Financial Commitment
  • Expect to pay or contribute financially towards meals at board meetings and retreats.
  • Expect to arrange transportation to board meetings, board retreats, and events. 
  • Expect to be reimbursed for supplies and resources that you purchase/rent on behalf of AKC for events and programming (subject to approval)
Please note that there are additional responsibilities and expectations for leadership positions within AK Connection's board and the above details a general board member's commitment. If being an event volunteer is a better fit for you, please consider filling out our Volunteer Form.

There is a wide range of skills and responsibilities that help keep AK Connection up and running. Some of the most important work we do as a board include the following: event planning, fundraising, grant writing, finances, accounting, project management, communications, development, advocacy, networking, graphic design, photography, and marketing.
