About BRWIA:
Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture (BRWIA) is a women-led nonprofit dedicated to creating a more equitable and sustainable local food system in the High Country. We support local producers and foster community connections through education and engagement to inspire and increase demand for local food.
Current Volunteer Opportunities:
High Country Food Hub: A year-round online farmers' market offering local produce, meat, dairy, bread, artisan foods, flowers, body care products, and plants from producers within 100 miles of Boone. Products are delivered to the Food Hub and volunteers help sort, organize, and distribute customer orders.
- When: Wednesdays, 9:00 AM - 6:30 PM (2-3 hour shifts preferred)
- Tasks: Morning shifts: Sorting orders. Afternoon shifts: Pulling and delivering orders to customers outside (includes lifting up to 40 lbs)
- What to Bring/Wear: Comfortable, non-slip, closed-toe shoes and warm clothing for working in the walk-in freezer. We have extra coats, hats, and gloves if needed.
The Food Hub is located at 252 Poplar Grove Rd, Boone, in the Watauga Agricultural Conference Center.
