Letter to Senators demanding the approval of the Project for the Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy (Interrupción Voluntaria del Embarazo - I.V.E.)

We, the undersigned, would like to express our support regarding the treatment of the Project for the Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy (Interrupción Voluntaria del Embarazo - I.V.E.) in the Argentine Senate.

We defend this project, which has already had a favorable vote in the House of Representatives, and demand its approval without modifications on August 8th, 2018.

Criminalizing a woman’s right to choose the termination of a pregnancy runs counter to her citizenship rights and deepens a situation of social vulnerability, being death its most violent consequence. These consequences affect mostly women of lesser economic and educational means, aggravated today by the effects of inflation, unemployment, underemployment, and the general economic crisis. In Argentina today, women do not have appropriate sexual education nor do they have guaranteed access to contraception.

In the name of people’s autonomy and freedom, regardless of sexual identity, we demand the Argentine Congress to guarantee our human rights to life, to health, and the pursuit of our sexuality, free from coercion or violence, and our right to choose when and how to bear children.

The right to choose must be law!

Sexual education to decide
Contraception not to abort
Legal abortion not to die

Legal abortion is Democracy’s debt in Argentina.

Campaña Nacional por el Derecho al Aborto Legal, Seguro y Gratuito.
