Biomedical Life Science Enrichment for Academic Progress (Bio-LEAP) Program Application

The Bio-LEAP (Biomedical Life Science Enrichment for Academic Progress) program offers high-quality, mentored independent research experiences in the Department of Pharmacology for undergraduate students from across the US and Puerto Rico who are contemplating future careers in biomedical research, and who are considering pursuing advanced degrees such as Ph.D., M.D., D.D.S., combined degrees such as M.D./Ph.D., etc.

The Bio-LEAP program is part of a larger University of Minnesota initiative called Life Sciences Summer Undergraduate Research Program (LSSURP). Bio-LEAP students pursue a full-time 10-week duration research project in the lab of a UMN Department of Pharmacology faculty member with whom they are matched. In addition to gaining valuable research experience conducting cutting-edge research projects, participants are exposed to a combination of optional and mandatory training/enrichment/social events designed to help them build confidence, network with members of the UMN research community, and gain valuable experience that will help them prepare to pursue their medium- and long-term educational and professional objectives.

Participants will receive a stipend of $6,000 dollars, for which they will be expected to participate in all required LSSURP and Bio-LEAP activities and to fully commit to their research project. While reasonable accommodations will be made, and excused absences accepted, it is expected that Bio-LEAP students will devote 40 hours per week to the aforementioned activities.
