Big Dog Rescue Project North East Adoption App
Northeast U.S.
If you are NOT in the Northeast U.S., please go here to select a different location.

Thank you for your interest in adopting from Big Dog Rescue Project. We primarily take dogs from high-kill shelters in Texas and send them to the Pacific Northwest and East Coast. Some dogs already have a region assigned to them and others can be placed in either.

We are a small organization that are all volunteers and while we make an effort to communicate with every application, we are unable to. Our lack of response in no way speaks of your worthiness as an adopter. We may have an application already in the process of being approved when you apply or another application may simply be a better match for the particular dog. WE WILL CONTACT YOU ONLY IF YOU ARE CHOSEN TO ADOPT. If you do not hear back on the dog you applied for but are interested in another dog please express your interest VIA email. Please check our Petfinder.com page often for available dogs. Applications are good for 90 days.

ALL questions must be answered.  Please read them carefully.  If you omit information it will delay or deny your application for approval. We carefully match our dogs with the appropriate home in the interest of the dogs, ie fenced yard, age of children, location, vet reference. We will contact you if we believe we have a match in our program for your family. All approved applications will have a home visit before making an adoption final so if you are out of our area it makes that difficult.  Please note: as a general rule, children should be over the age of 5 to adopt.

PLEASE CONTACT YOUR VET AND LET THEM KNOW WE WILL BE CALLING. Due to privacy laws, vets are requiring authorization to provide a reference. If we are unable to get a reference when we call the first time, we will email you to call your vet. This will delay the processing of your application.

If you are applying for a specific dog, please make sure that you are READY to take that dog now. We are a small group and cannot hold or board dogs until your are ready to bring them home.

Do you understand that a majority of our dogs are fostered in Texas until they have committed adopters and will not travel to the Northeast until they have an adoption in place? *We are a TX-based rescue with our target adoption audience in the Northeast. A majority of our dogs are fostered in TX until they have committed adoptions. To mitigate this, we would love to put you in touch with their current caregivers in Texas. We bring dogs to the Northeast as we have foster homes available. If they are fostered in the Northeast, it will state their specific Northeast location in their written Petfinder or Facebook bio (not their Petfinder location). Our dogs in the Northeast are all in private foster homes and are only available to meet with a pre-approved application.
