), under the New York City Department of Education, is one of the eight Equity and Excellence initiatives announced by Mayor Bill de Blasio and former Chancellor Carmen Fariña in 2015. Our mission is to ensure that all NYC public school students, with an emphasis on Black, Latinx, and female students, receive a meaningful and high-quality computer science (CS) education at the elementary, middle, and high school levels by 2025.

Computer science (CS) education helps develop students’ logical thinking and problem solving skills using computational thinking, abstraction, data representation, and impacts on society.

The New York State Education Department expects all New York State schools (elementary, middle, and high schools) to implement CS education aligned with the K-12 New York State Computer Science and Digital Fluency Learning Standards by September 2024. • Grade and curriculum-based training and support for teachers to implement CS in their classroom that is grounded in culturally responsive-sustaining education and equitable practices in computer science.
• Teacher leadership pathways to develop CS teacher leaders in your building who support planning and build a culture of belonging in computer science that is welcoming and affirming.
• Specially designed series of workshops for school leaders to learn and grow the high-level work of equitable access to CS for all students.
• Access to a network of citywide and borough-based cohort communities of teachers and school leaders who are at different phases in building their CS program.
