You're invited to join us on this special Winter Ireland Retreat for young adults!
Together as one Sangha body of Wake Uppers, we will co-creatively welcome the winter with loving-kindness meditations, Dharma talks, written and artistic reflections for the year, as well as celebrating through conscious play, music, and dancing! Let us celebrate our lives in a way that will inspire and uplift ourselves, our descendants, and our society, lighting a bright path into the future for us all.
We'll enjoy sinking deeper in the practice, connecting deeply with ourselves and each other in the present moment.
Practicing this way, we know that we will continue beautifully into the future.
Kilcuan is a retreat center located in the small town of Clarinbridge, surrounded by trees and tucked away with a beautiful walled garden in the grounds and magical forest trails close by. Philippe Madec, one of our core organizers has attended retreats led by his father Claude Madec from That's Life Disability Arts Program where wonderfully inclusive retreats have been facilitated to support adults with intellectual disabilities. The center has a spacious yet cozy practice space with tall beautiful windows and there is also a large common area where we can chill out and eat together. Accommodation offers mostly twin bedrooms with some single also available and all rooms are ensuite.
We invite people to arrive between 4 and 6pm on Thursday, Dec 6th. Dinner will be served at 6:30pm!
Our retreat will end at 3pm on Sunday, December 9th. (We will have food-to-go for those who need to leave before lunch.)

Public Transport from Galway City:Bus Eireann Line 51 departs from Galway train station at 5 minutes past the hour arriving to Clarinbridge in less than 20 minutes. From the bus stop, step off turn right and continue walking the direction the bus was going for about 5 minutes and take the first left through large gates leading down a long driveway. Follow the driveway and take the first left where you will be warmly welcomed to the beautiful center.
Philippe Madec is a yoga teacher sharing what he has learned around the world. We are lucky enough for him to be coming back home to Ireland in time for this retreat! He will be offering mindful movements and an invitation to connect with each other. Philippe and Dermot will also bring us together in playing guitar and singing songs.
Dermot Foley is a care-bear in disguise of a 2 meter tall burly man. Another native Irish-man, he has been a pillar of solidity in supporting this retreat and wider Sangha in Ireland. Aside from offering deep meditations of the body in the body, he will likely make us laugh and cry at the same time.
Mercia Moseley is a Wake Up enthusiast, photographer-artist extraordinaire, and soulful listener of our group. She has more Wake Up friends in different countries around the world than anyone we know!
David Viafora (former monk and OI member for 9 years) is apprenticing with Dharma Teachers Michael Ciborski and Fern Dorresteyn at MorningSun Mindfulness Community in New Hampshire, USA. He has been coordinating New Years retreats for the past 5 years and admires the powers of deep aspiration for our practice during this time.
