CTS, OCDE and BCOE are looking to recruit a small design team of up to fifteen expert students, educators and scholars over the 2018-2019 year to develop an evidence-based curriculum for schools throughout California to enhance the ability of educators to utilize strategies that are culturally relevant, responsive and appropriate for understanding and addressing classroom/school behaviors that can undermine or disrupt the learning environment.
One of the primary goals of the state curriculum is to help schools shift from traditional approaches to school discipline, particularly across race, class, language, and cultural differences. In addition to developing the curriculum, design team members will help develop scalable strategies for implementing positive discipline approaches at the local level, not only thinking through ways student engagement needs to change, but also how it can happen across a district, school site or community.
We are seeking individuals dedicated to improving student learning across school systems to join our design team. Interested applicants should complete the application below NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2018. Please note you must submit a short biography and three references.
Design Team members are expected to participate in quarterly in-person meetings and video conferences over the course of a year. Primary time commitments for this five-year project (2018-2023) will be from January 2019 to Fall 2019. Participants (or their organizations if preferred) will receive a $5000 stipend for the duration of the five-year project. Travel-related expenses (including meals incurred during travel) will also be covered with prior approval by CTS, OCDE and BCOE.
Members selected for the state design team will be notified by December 2018. The first face-to-face meeting will be held on 1/22/19 and 1/23/19.
