Preliminary agenda:

Day 1 (everybody) – Tuesday 18 October 2022
Afternoon: Arrival in Longyearbyen in the afternoon.
Evening: Icebreaker and poster session at UNIS. Virtual field trip to Festningen.
Workshop introduction in Lassegrotta auditorium.

Day 2 (everybody) – Wednesday 19 October 2022
Morning: Status review of paleoclimate research in Svalbard and the Arctic.
Extended lunch: Excursion to Endalen core storage and CO2 lab site in Adventdalen.
Afternoon: Existing data sets – what cores exist already, and where are the knowledge gaps?
Afternoon: Proxies for deep-time paleoclimate from Snowball Earth to PETM.

Day 3 (everybody) – Thursday 20 October 2022
Morning: Knowledge gaps discussion – where to drill for high-resolution cores?
Cryogenian and Ediacaran glaciations, Carboniferous-Permian, Middle Triassic, HALIP
intrusions/background trends, Aspelintoppen Formation etc.
Extended lunch break: Excursion to Carolinefjellet Formation along airport road in
Longyearbyen
Afternoon: Synthesis and proposal discussion.
Afternoon: Breakout-sessions on specific drilling proposals. Work package sessions led by 6
leaders as identified above.
Evening: Conference dinner at UNIS canteen

Day 4 (organizers and session chairs) – Friday 21 October 2022
Morning and afternoon: Workshop report, proposal drafting, task distribution to participants.
