KISS North Park aims for businesses to increase local awareness of sustainability while showcasing their efforts towards green business practices. To receive a KISS North Park Green Business Program sticker to display in your storefront window, please check the eight elements below and provide your contact information. 1. Waste Reduction
We recycle and reuse paper, glass, plastic, and aluminum *
Paper includes cardboard (waxed or non-waxed corrugated cardboard boxes), mixed paper (junk mail, scrap, and colored paper), newspaper, and office paper (color, computer, larger format, and copier paper).
We only provide straws to customers upon request *
Straws are not provided to customers unless they request one. Ideally reusable glass straws are used.
2. Energy Efficiency
We use energy efficient light bulbs *
Replace all T-12 fluorescent lighting with energy efficient T-8 or T-5 lamps with electronic ballasts. Replace all A-Type incandescent lamps with compact fluorescent lamps or high efficiency alternatives such as LED, dimmable cold cathode, or MR16 if application is color-critical.
3. Water Efficiency
We use aerators in all public restrooms. *
Install water efficient aerators in each sink in every public restroom.
We post signs to encourage water conservation. *
Post signs in restrooms and kitchens to encourage water conservation and to report leaks.
4. Pollution Prevention
We cover our trash, recycle bins, and more *
Cover trash and recycle bins to limit contact of pollutants with rain to reduce stormwater pollution. Store deliveries and supplies under a roof.
We wash items away from storm drains *
Do not wash cars, equipment, floor mats, or other items outside where run-off water flows straight to the storm drain; this wash water should be directed to a sewer drain. Use dry clean-up methods for sidewalks, walls, and windows, parking lots, floor mats, and dumpsters to avoid contaminating storm drains. Sweep or vacuum before damp mopping or wiping.
5. Transportation Management
We provide ridesharing information *
Provide ridesharing information on carpooling, vanpooling, bicycling, walking, and public/mass transit on a bulletin board. Distribute rideshare monthly. For more info go to
6. Eco-Purchasing
We purchase eco-friendly products *
Purchase only compostable, recyclable, and/or reusable kitchenware. Purchase only 35-100% post-consumer paper. Avoid polystyrene (#6 plastic).
