2023 Application Packet

The Harrisonburg Fire Department (HFD) is excited to announce their third annual Community Fire Academy. The purpose of the academy is to educate attendees about how the Harrisonburg Fire Department operates and serves the community. The academy will provide a unique and fun experience for all participants. The academy is open to Harrisonburg City residents, 18 years and older, and is free of charge.  

**We understand that people outside Harrisonburg City may be interested in attending. Priority will be given to those living in the city, however we still encourage you to apply and welcome all!

Community Fire Academy Important Dates:

Academy Start Date: Wednesday, May 10, 2023
Academy End Date: Wednesday, June 14, 2023

Classes will be held every Wednesday night from 6:00-8:30 pm at Fire Station #1 (80 Maryland Avenue). Light snacks and drinks will be provided. 

Please carefully review all the included forms including applicant information, medical information, video/photo release, applicant questions and the list of activities. All the sections of this packet must be completed in full; incomplete packets will not be accepted. Applicants are expected to be responsible and demonstrate a positive attitude. Any inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated and will lead to immediate dismissal from the academy.  

All applications must be received no later than Monday, April 24, 2023 at 5pm.
