This is more than a "typical" residency. It is a structured artist development programme that begins before you arrive in Fez and continues for approximately six months after you return home.

Rather than treating the residency as simply time away to create or be inspired, we encourage artists to approach this programme as an investment in the future of their practice. Working together, we define a project that provides direction for your time in Fez and creates a supported framework for what follows.

Throughout the programme you will be encouraged to reflect on your professional objectives, challenge assumptions, develop new ideas and work towards an agreed outcome resulting from your experience in Morocco. 

The outcome will be unique to you. It may become a body of work, exhibition, publication, research project, collaboration, funding proposal, business initiative, or something entirely unexpected.

An important part of the programme is documenting your journey. 

Documentation isn't simply for promotion. It encourages reflection, creates accountability, captures your development as an artist and helps maintain momentum after the residency. 

You do not need to have a fully developed project before applying. Curiosity, openness and commitment are far more important than having all the answers.

The Practice Development Project is designed for artists who are ready to actively develop their practice. It is intended for artists who want to think strategically about their future, explore new perspectives, and commit to completing and continuing the work after returning home.

This programme is likely to be a good fit if you are excited by the idea of:

• approaching your residency with a clear sense of purpose
• developing both your creative and professional practice
• committing to developing your project for up to six months after the residency
• sharing elements of your experience to inspire other artists 

The programme is probably not the right fit if you are simply looking for inspiration or time away to create, have little interest in reflecting on your wider practice, or are not ready to commit to developing your project beyond your residency.
