KCCD/FACE 10th Lighting the Community Summit High School Application Form

Korean Churches for Community Development (KCCD), soon to be Faith and Community Empowerment (FACE) is pleased to extend a limited number of slots for high school students to participate in our 10th National Lighting the Community Summit, which will be held from November 2-4, 2017 at Los Angeles City Hall in Los Angeles, California. The summit's theme this year is "Shining Our Light: Building Bridges, Building Communities, Building Trust" through witness, partnership and advocacy.

High school participants will have a rare opportunity to learn and meet with government, corporate, business, entertainment, faith and community leaders who are making an impact in the world at our Summit. Students will have the opportunity to develop their leadership and service skills as well as connect mentorship opportunities by meeting role models, while being trained how to advocate issues as well as leverage government, corporate and foundation resources to address needs in the community. Students who are selected and complete the program will receive Congressional certificates for their service and a chance to obtain the President's Volunteer Service Award through KCCD/FACE.

As a high school participant, responsibilities will include:
Commitment to volunteer during the Summit, including assisting with registration, coordinating participants, writing articles, interviewing participants and speakers, actively engaging in social media such as Facebook, Twitter and/or Instagram about the Summit, and creating a post-summary report of your Summit experience

As part of the summit, we will be hosting the Faith and Community Impact Awards Gala Dinner where we will celebrate great models of leadership in the AAPI faith-community-including pastors, churches, non-profit and business leaders. Although leadership exists in our community, it is not known because it has seldom been given a platform for visibility.

Participants must be accompanied by a chaperon (parent or their minister) and must sign liability waiver/release forms before being fully registered for the Summit. Participants and their chaperon will need to submit all fees and registration and waiver before full acceptance.

Upon review of your application, we will notify you of your acceptance into the program. There are limited number of slots and qualified applicants will be accepted on a rolling basis.

Deadline to apply is until October 27, 2017.
