The El Dorado Union High School District is working with teachers, administration, staff, parents, and the El Dorado County Health Department to develop a plan for opening schools on August 10, 2020. The extent to which schools are open shall be based on what is allowable under Stage 2 or Stage 3 of Governor Newsom’s plan to reopen California. Currently, El Dorado County is in Stage 2 of the four stage plan for reopening California. Stage 2 calls for schools to be open in a modified manner, after July 1, with Stage 3 allowing for greater numbers of students to gather and congregate on campuses. Classroom based instruction will be offered in August at all schools.

The District realizes that some families may not allow their students to return to school under either our Stage 2 or Stage 3 reopening plans.  Therefore, the District is offering families the option to enroll in online Independent Study for the 2020-21 school year. Chromebooks shall be provided upon request for students requesting the online Independent Study option.  

The District formed a “Reopening Committee” and is waiting for clarification from the El Dorado County Health Department to provide guidance on the classroom requirements for students under Stage 2 or Stage 3. Once provided, the District Reopening Committee will create school schedules which define the number of students allowed in classrooms and number of days in which students attend school to ensure those classroom maximums are not exceeded. The District will publish school schedules for both Stage 2 and Stage 3 scenarios because there is a possibility that the county could move either forward or backward along the continuum this fall.

In order to effectively teach students, the District needs to know how many students wish to return to school under our soon-to-be released Stage 2 and Stage 3 plans, and how many students wish to enroll in online Independent Study program if available to a large number of students.  

Parents and Guardians are only to complete the survey if they are wanting to enroll students into the online Independent Study option. Students not selecting the online program will be enrolled in classroom based programs under the Stage 2 and Stage 3 reopening schedules.
