Thank you for considering Yinghua Academy for your child’s education!
Founded in 2006, Yinghua Academy became the first Chinese immersion public charter school in the United States. In the fall of 2006, 79 students walked through the doors of Yinghua Academy. During the 2020-21 school year as we celebrate our 15th year, we have an enrollment of 851. The school has grown from a K–5 elementary school to a K–4 Lower School and 5-8 Middle School.
As the first school of its kind in the United States, Yinghua Academy has emerged as a leader in Chinese immersion education and was recognized as a Confucius Classroom of the Year in 2014. In addition, we were honored to earn the distinctive National Blue Ribbon School Award in 2015, one of only 335 schools nationwide. The school creates curriculum recognized nationally and internationally for its effectiveness, leading to bi-literacy in Mandarin Chinese and English for all students. Our curriculum covers all Minnesota State Standards and the Core Knowledge Sequence, building both subject area knowledge and Mandarin fluency from year to year.

The 2020-2021 Open Enrollment Period is Monday, January 4, 2021—Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at 5:00 PM.
If we have received more applications than we can accommodate as has been the case since 2007, we will hold a lottery during a public meeting on Saturday, February 27, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Yinghua Academy. Attendance is not required.
After the close of the Open Enrollment Period, Yinghua Academy will continue to accept applications for all grades. If there is no space available in a specific grade, the prospective student will be put on a wait list.
Kindergarten Enrollment: For 2021-2022 school year, Kindergarten applicants must have been born on or before September 1, 2016.
