IMPORTANT:
New Expressive Works is made up of two studios:- A large 2000-square foot studio which is also the performance space AND a smaller 750-square feet rehearsal studio. Depending on availability, both studios will have to be used for your residency period. While all good faith effort will be made to host residency hours in the big studio, N.E.W. cannot guarantee that every residency rehearsal hour will occur in the big studio.
ALL REGULAR RESIDENCY REHEARSALS ARE HIGHLY ENCOURAGED (TWO 3-HOUR SESSIONS PER WEEK) TO OCCUR BETWEEN 8AM AND 6PM MONDAY - FRIDAY. PLEASE LIST YOUR AVAILABILITY PREFERENCES (DAYS AND BLOCKS OF TIME). LIST AT LEAST TWO OPTIONS FOR EACH REHEARSAL SLOT.

PLEASE ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:
DESCRIBE YOUR PROJECT AND WHY THIS PROJECT MERITS SUPPORT. (MAXIMUM 500 words). Our panel (Founder of N.E.W., member(s) of the residency Resource Council, and an outside artist) looks for applicants who present proposals that reflect new directions for the artist, especially ones that have some considerable risk attached to them. Successful applicants are often those who exhibit a personal critical imperative for being in this residency. *
Your answer
PLEASE DESCRIBE HOW “FIELDWORK” WILL BENEFIT YOUR PROJECT. (MAXIMUM 500 WORDS) Fieldwork, (http://thefield.org/content/fieldwork) is a facilitated, peer-to-peer critique process. Comments focus on what's happening in the work and how each choice shapes the work, keeping the authorship of the artist constantly supported. Fieldwork cultivates insight into composition and strengthens one's ability to give critical commentary. The N.E.W. Residency format considers Fieldwork an essential and important tool. In our residency, residents typically come together once every 6 weeks to present their work-in-progress and exchange comments with their fellow residents, Fieldwork Facilitator, Katherine Longstreth, and N.E.W. Program Director, Subashini Ganesan. (NOTE: Sometimes, Resource Council members participate in these sessions, as well.) *

IF SELECTED TO BE A N.E.W. RESIDENT I AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING RULES AND GUIDELINES:
I understand that the Residency begins the week of November 17th, 2019 and ends the week of May 3rd, 2020. The final showing will be held May 8th - 10th 2020 at 7:30pm nightly and I will perform in it. *
Your answer
I will be available for a N.E.W. Residency Orientation on Wednesday November 6th 2019 between 6:30pm and 8:30pm. *
Your answer
I will set-up and maintain a regular rehearsal schedule with New Expressive Works. I will generally receive a maximum of 6 hours (two 3-hour slots) between 8am and 6pm on weekdays. Serious illness and/or family emergencies are the only reason for carrying forward rehearsal hours. Otherwise, unused hours will be forfeit at the end of each week. *
Your answer
I will use the rehearsal time to create a new 20-minute work. The final work will be showcased the last weekend of the residency. This showcase will be a 3-night ticketed performance run, produced by New Expressive Works. *
Your answer
I will participate fully in “Fieldwork,” a facilitated, peer to peer process that is an integral part of this residency. Every 6 weeks all participants will gather (with facilitator and N.E.W. Program Director) to share your developing work and exchange feedback to support cultivating insight into composition and strengthening one's ability to give critical commentary. *
Your answer
While the ownership of all materials created during the residency belongs to the artist, New Expressive Works reserves the right to use images/footage/interviews/other materials developed during the residency for publicity materials to promote work in New Expressive Works. *
