Keep vouchers out of the COVID-19 relief bill!
Pastors for Children believes that God desires a quality education for every child. Nine of out ten children in America attend public schools. Public schools are underfunded and under-resourced already. Quality education during a pandemic will cost more, not less. We cannot divert public funding to private schools in the middle of a crisis, or ever. Furthermore, we must keep government out of our fine private and church schools.
Secondly, the business of reopening schools is the responsibility of state and local officials. County health departments must be allowed to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 in their community before determining whether it is safe to put our children back in enclosed spaces with our dedicated teachers. Pastors for Children emphasizes the necessity for America's children to be physically present in classrooms as soon as possible. But we must do our part to keep everyone safe.
Let's pour our COVID-19 resources into our public schools, so that they can offer the robust and personal education that they are very capable of providing. We need more funding, not less. We need to know that we can count on our elected leaders to support this most essential American institution at the very time when the term "essential" is more important than ever.
Please submit your name and contact information on our petition to Congress to reject the proposed funding to private religious schools in the upcoming relief bill. We will carry your voice to every U.S. Senator.
As Jesus said, “Anyone who welcomes a little child on my behalf welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes not only me but also my Father who sent me” (Mark 9:37). We must care for our nation's children and protect their right to a good education, now more than ever.
