CONTACTS AND WAIVERSEach participant (or the parent of a junior archer) will need to fill out and sign the Membership form, Release of Liability Waiver, and Photo Release. The Safety Rules must also be reviewed with the junior archer and signed before class. These 4 forms are available under Indoor 1 Documents at http://www.archerytrainingcenter.com/classes/recreational. If some parents accompany the archer to the birthday party, they can sign the forms at the range. ALL FORMS MUST BE SUBMITTED BEFORE THE ARCHER WILL BE ALLOWED TO ENTER THE RANGE.
ARRIVALSWe all start together. It is important for everyone to arrive 15 min. before the party begins, so we can start on time. If some people are late, we may start 15 minutes or so late, which will mean less shooting for everyone. We would recommend carpooling from another location, so everyone arrives on time.
PARKINGThere is limited parking for a max. of 10 cars outside our range. If you'll need more parking, please carpool from another nearby public parking location (shopping center, etc.).
PARTY AGENDAThe party will be an abbreviated version of the Indoor 1 First-time Class. We will enforce the safety rules, so everyone should read them carefully. After everyone learns the basics, they'll start shooting. It's impossible to just "let them shoot" as soon as they arrive, because (besides the safety factor), they just wouldn't hit anything, and would become very frustrated...so a basic lesson in good form is essential for them in order to enjoy shooting. After everyone shoots for a while or scores 50 pts. at 9m, we'll put up balloons on the wall, and all the archers will try to hit theirs. If some balloons remain, they can take them home, or watch as the best archer of the day or the birthday boy/girl/adult tries to hit them. Everyone cheers! The balloons are always a big hit and create a lot of laughter.
AWARDSEveryone will receive a Personal Best award and, if they shot 50+ pts., also a Qualifier Certificate, which means they are then members of USA Archery's Junior Olympic program or Adult Training Program, and can join the regularly scheduled classes (Indoor 2 classes on the Calendar). Later in future classes, if they would like to earn USA Archery Star Pins, they'll need to join USA Archery at https://usarchery.sport80.com/register/membership?id_add_on=246 .
WHAT WE PROVIDEWe provide all archery equipment, balloons (to shoot at), bottled water, napkins. You can see photos of the interior of our facility on our website. The white round tables with red/blue/black chairs in the area adjacent to the archery range will seat 10-13 participants comfortably.
WHAT YOU COULD BRINGYou can bring whatever other refreshments and food you like. Most bring easy-to-eat cupcakes, doughnuts, cookies, cake, soft drinks, orange juice, etc. (There are lots of photos online of archery-decorated deserts!) Please also remember to bring the cutlery, plates, cups, etc., and, of course, PRESENTS!
WHEN SHOULD THEY EAT?AFTER the shooting and archery photos, otherwise there are sticky fingers on the equipment, delays, etc. (You could set the tables while the archers are shooting.) Most prefer to do the archery part separately, and go home or to a restaurant for the "cake and presents" part, as there is often another archery class starting immediately after the archers finish shooting.
PHOTOSJust some pointers on taking archery photos in our indoor range, which we've learned from years of experience photographing archers. We hope these help you take great photos and fill your scrapbook with wonderful memories of your son, daughter, relative or friend on their birthday! o Generally: Pay close attention to the background in your photos (which should be the target wall whenever possible, since it's more colorful and will remind you that it was an archery party) and the overhead lighting (should be a few feet in front of the subject, so the light is more even on their faces, not directly overhead creating shadows.)o Group photo: Take a group shot with everyone standing at the target wall. Good to do after the target faces are on the wall but before the archers start shooting and/or after we add the balloons.o Archers shooting: Stand in the middle room at the far window to take photos of the archers through the window while they are shooting. Do NOT ask an archer with an arrow in his/her bow to turn towards you so you can take a photo – very dangerous!o Parent/child photo: Have each parent and child stand together at the target wall in front of their target with arrows in it, and turn around and smile at you while you take a photo of them.o Arrows in the wall: When the archers go to the target wall to pull their arrows, stand on the very far right at the target wall in the vacant space, and photo everyone's arrows sticking out from the wall and also photo them pulling their arrows!o Birthday photo: Take a photo with everyone seated at the tables before they start eating – with the birthday person sitting in front of their cake!o Podium photo: Often we ranking everyone who has participated, and have the gold, silver, and bronze medallists stand on the podiums at the end of the party.
CLEAN UPThere will be trashcans available for your use. Please clean and wipe off the tables and pick up any items or food from the range that need to be thrown away, unless the coach instructs otherwise. There may be a class immediately after your party, so we appreciate your help cleaning up!
PICK UPEvery archer is to leave the range immediately after the birthday party. Our instructor(s) may be coaching another class immediately after your party, or turning off the lights and air-conditioning, locking the range, and leaving the building, so the birthday party organizer needs to make sure that if one or more of your guest junior archers has not been picked up immediately after the party, you stay with them until they are picked up. Please have their parents' contact numbers so you can get in touch with them for instructions, if necessary.
SAFE SPORTS:Parents please note we are part of the US Olympic Committee's Safe Sport program, so we minimally require one other adult besides the instructor to be present at all times. Please plan to stay with your child or take turns with other parents staying whenever necessary to fulfill this requirement. THANKS!
