Support Divestment at UCLA!
We, the undersigned students, faculty, staff and alumni of the University of California, Los Angeles, write to support Students for Justice in Palestine at UCLA's efforts to divest from companies that profit from violence against Palestinians. We recognize that it is our responsibility to ensure that the university’s actions remain consistent with the values outlined in its mission statement, in particular its commitment to the "betterment of our global society," and we acknowledge the necessity of taking action when this standard fails to be met. We maintain that the investment of student tuition and faculty retirement funds into companies that profit from violating Palestinian human rights and international law is contrary to UCLA’s values.

We therefore ask the Regents to withdraw funds from any companies engaged in violations of Palestinian human rights until these companies have ceased their harmful practices. While we may hold different perspectives on Israel/Palestine, we are united in the belief that our university should not profit from the systematic denial of Palestinian human rights through acts such as the construction of a wall, demolition of homes, administration of checkpoints, and construction of settlements on occupied land. By investing our student tuition dollars, faculty retirement funds, and other university revenues into companies engaged in these acts, the UC Regents have made us complicit in human rights violations. We are therefore compelled to clearly record our objection to these investments and our support for an investment policy that upholds rights and dignity of all people.
