The planning committee is searching for presentations on innovative practices in all aspects of adult education across the state of Iowa and nationally! Proposals will be accepted through
April 30, 2024.
We invite you to consider developing a presentation that will align with one of the different strands to be offered. Below you will find a list of five strands and examples of topics:
Workforce Collaborations (career pathways; apprenticeship;
career and technical education; college & career pathways; employability skills including
digital literacy & technology; sector partnerships; college & career readiness; WIOA; workforce development; contextualized learning; wrap-around services; workplace readiness; workplace literacy; employer
engagement; IET/IELCE; models of best practices)
Instructional Strategies (corrections-friendly teaching strategies; STAR; learning
strategies; classroom management; learning disabilities; learner
persistence; IDEAL initiative; Canvas; online distance education apps; digital literacy; online instructional strategies; motivating adult learners; overcoming barriers; support services)
English Language Learners (cultural sensitivity;
differential instruction; language development; effective assessment
strategies; student engagement; English language proficiency standards; language & cultural barriers; digital equity; universal design for learning; systems of support; policies and practices; outreach; integration of immigrant and refugee populations; trauma informed teaching; equity and accessibility)
High School Equivalency (math and numeracy; writing; science; social studies; literacy and reading; test taking strategies; critical thinking; time management)
Program Management & Leadership (leadership; state innovations; community-based
organizations; local program administrator; research, policy, and practice; data; recruitment & retention; volunteer recruitment/management; outreach; evaluation; program development; student management)
We are offering a selection of session types:
PresentationOne session on a topic that will be 60 or 90 minutes in length.
Panel DiscussionA group of people that will discuss a topic during a 60- or 90-minute session.
WorkshopSelect this option if you are planning on giving participants a hands-on experience.
To complete the application, you will need to provide:
