Lowell Elementary Survey 2016-17
Lowell Elementary School is conducting a survey in regards to District 709 Community Vision and Goals. Please take time to complete this survey as it will help Lowell develop and match goals according to district goals and will also help improve practices at Lowell.

We are not collecting names but would like to know your relationship to the school.

Although all of the items below may not seem to pertain directly to Lowell, please keep the following in mind when thinking about High Achievement for All:

* Increasing student achievement, reducing the achievement gap, and raising graduation rates.
* Continually improving and enhancing our quality of our curriculum and aligning it to state standards.
* Providing high quality staff development that aligns with our goal to provide opportunities for students of every culture and ability to be successful.
* Improve and enhance program offering before and after school.

Question 2 - Safe and Welcoming Environment for Everyone in Our School
Although all of the items below may not seem to pertain directly to Lowell, please keep the following in mind when thinking about a Safe and Welcoming Environment for Everyone in Our School:

*Decrease bullying among students.
*Reduce the use of Out of School Suspension as a disciplinary consequence.
*Increase safety and decrease injuries of students and staff.
*Increase family and community involvement (engagement and satisfaction), and deepen our community partnerships.

* Prioritize general fund spending to instruction and support of students.
* Improve communication, cooperation, and teamwork within and across employee groups.
* Increase the diversity of staff through culturally competent recruitment and retention practices.
* Expand and improve community use of facilities to support the needs of families and the greater community.

Question 4 - Initiatives at Lowell
There have been several new initiatives specific to Lowell. Please indicate your level of support these new initiatives and provide any input.
Implementation of Nature Play (Playscape and Nature Trial)
At Lowell, a new Playscape was developed to encourage children to play with the natural resources in the environment, take controlled risks, and develop cooperation skills and enhance a child's imagination.

Question 5 - Immersion (both Spanish and Ojibwe)
Core Characteristics of Immersion Education

*Additive bilingualism with sustained and enriched instruction through the minority language and them majority language is promoted.
*Subject area instruction through the minority language occurs for at least 50% of the school day during the elementary school years.
*Teachers are fully proficient in the language(s) they use for instruction.
*Clear and sustained separation of languages during instructional time.

Question 6 -Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (Lowell Lions PRIDE)
*Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a framework that organizes strategies for both academics and social behaviors. The goal of schools using the PBIS framework is to enhance academic and social outcomes using data-based decision-making.
*Schools are trained and guided through an 8-step process for implementations, making sure that all school staff, families, and communicability are aware of the language and programs in place to support positive behavior with students.
*School implementing PBIS have a PBIS team committed to the initiative and work.

Question 7 - Electronic Communication
Lowell has been making a push to go paperless. Communication as been pushed out to families through our Infinite Campus Messenger system. Additionally, the PTA has been maintaining a Facebook page in collaboration with staff at Lowell. Changes are in progress to our website (http://lowell-elementary.isd709.org/) to make the site more user friendly for families. We do recognize that we have some "bumps in the road" as we are trying to go paperless. We are looking for feedback on improvements and how to keep families without computer access connected to Lowell.
