The Tech Toolbox session is a series of 8 to 9 minute long microtalks, where developers present their homemade tools, snippets, editor extensions, hacks, and quick fixes for unique and novel solutions. These tools should ideally be non-commercial solutions to solving recurring problems in game development, be it day-to-day programming, pipeline optimizations, prototyping or other.
To get an idea about the sort of stuff we're looking for, take a look at previous editions:Watch the 2015 edition here: http://www.gdcvault.com/play/1022284/TechWatch the 2016 edition here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_okgL6HJX8Watch the 2017 edition here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujl0gzj-89g
Tech Toolbox speakers get a full GDC Speaker Pass (All Access + Speaker benefits).
When evaluating submissions, we'll be looking for the following info:- Is this relevant and interesting to the average (indie) developer?- Is the tool's design, or idea, platform/engine independent?- Has the tool influenced the design or development of my game? How?- Is it open source, proprietary, or commercially licensed? (The session is about sharing tools and practices, not promoting commercial products)- Are you able to explain the tool in a short time?- What is special about your tool?- What aspects can you cover in <10 minutes? - Can you explain and/or demo it meaningfully?
The Tech Toolbox submission form will close on December 22, at midnight PST.
