Petition for UNT's new residence hall to be named to honor a significant person of the UNT community that identifies as a person of color and/or a woman.
A new residence hall is currently being built on Eagle Drive between Avenue A and Avenue B and is scheduled to open in March 2019.

There are over 87 buildings that make up the University of North Texas and none of them are named to pay tribute to a member of the UNT community that identified as people of color and only two buildings on campus (Murchison Performing Arts Center and Clark Hall) are named after women. However, the University of North Texas is a Minority Serving Institution with at least 50% of undergraduate students of color and a robust international community representative of more than 130 countries. We believe that it is important to promote diversity in every aspect of the student experience at our university.

This petition will be included in the resolution sent from the Student Senate of the UNT Student Government Association.
The intentions of this petition is to help influence the board to strongly consider a significant person of the UNT community that identifies as a person of color and/or a woman when selecting a name for the new residence hall. This petition will be officially sent to the UNT Board of Regents, President of the University, Vice President of Student Affairs, Vice President of Advancement, 2018 Residence Hall Design Team, and the UNT System Chancellor.
