7 August 2019: Workshop on games to support early literacy and language (4–5 year olds) | Application form
Registration for this workshop closes on 31 July 2019.
About the workshop
Every child aged between birth and five years should have access to high quality language, literacy and mathematics learning opportunities, in ECD settings and in homes. Language is at the heart of learning and young children learn through interacting with people and objects in their environment. They begin by learning language and then use language to learn. Listening, understanding, reasoning and communicating all rely on language. These skills in turn provide the building blocks of early literacy and mathematics learning.

We know that young children learn best when they are actively involved and having fun. Over the past ten years Wordworks has developed games and activities to support young children’s learning. The games are fun and engaging and will help 4 to 5 year old children to learn language and support early literacy development. The games are available in Afrikaans, English and isiXhosa.

In this workshop we will demonstrate how to play the games, and explain their importance for language and literacy learning. Many of the games are available as open source resources on our website. They can also be purchased as part of our Literacy Game Pack.
