Face Covering Exemption Form
The Government has now extended the wearing of face coverings by Secondary aged students to all indoor areas including classrooms and we require students to wear a face covering in classrooms from 8th March as well as the usual indoor communal spaces such as corridors and lunch halls. In addition, we require students to wear a face covering as they enter the school gates and as they leave the school site at the end of the day. I would ask that parents dropping and collecting a child wear a face covering too. I need to explain more about potential ‘exemptions’ from wearing masks. The guidance is now much clearer and exemption from wearing a face covering only applies to:
Those who cannot put on, wear or remove a face covering because of a physical impairment or disability, illness or mental health difficulties or those who speak to or provide help to someone who relies on lip reading, clear sound or facial expression to communicate.
The vast majority of pupils and parents recognise and support us in the wearing of face coverings to reduce transmission of Coronavirus and the social responsibility to keep all of us safe. The Academy will always be sensitive and sympathetic to students who fall into the categories above however there were a small number of students who we feel abused this last term and falsely claimed exemption when they simply didn’t want to wear a face covering. We are therefore requesting that all parents who feel their child is exempt to inform us again and complete this form. A new lanyard will be given to children and staff who are exempt from wearing a face covering. I am appealing to all parents and students to work with us and accept this is about us all supporting each other to keep safe.
