WAER Scholarship Application
The Wisconsin Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired (WAER) is pleased to award one $1000 scholarship for the Fall 2020 semester to an individual interested in entering or continuing a vocation in education, rehabilitation teaching, rehabilitation counseling, or orientation & mobility for persons with visual impairments. Individuals entering these fields will provide the training and experiences that enable people with visual impairments to increase their independence. WAER is committed to supporting professionals in our field, including college students.
WAER is interested in awarding this scholarship to a student who is a Wisconsin resident or has a verifiable commitment to work in Wisconsin. A person will be considered a resident if he/she currently resides in Wisconsin or was a resident of Wisconsin during the year prior to a move to pursue his/her degree in the field.
Students applying must have declared their majors and be enrolled in the university program during the semester in which the scholarship is awarded (Fall 2020).
The following must be provided IN ADDITION to this application:
1) Proof of residency or intended employment in Wisconsin (see appropriate documentation below)
a) Photocopy of Wisconsin driver's license,
b) Photocopy of photo identification card issued by Wisconsin accredited university or college that contains date of issuance, student signature, and expiration date no later than two years after date of issuance,
c) Photocopy of Wisconsin ID card,
d) Photocopy of employee photo identification card issued by current employer, containing employer's name and address, or
e) Photocopy of utility bill for water, gas, electricity or telephone service issued within the last 90 days.
f) Ask if other options are needed.
2) A copy of most recent college transcript (or high school transcript, if applicable),
3) Documentation of enrollment during the semester in which the scholarship is awarded,
4) A letter of recommendation accompanied by the Ratings Scale sheet, completed by a high school counselor, college advisor, professor, or employer.
