SA New Student Representative Application 2017-2018
Thank you for taking the time to fill out the SA New Student Representative Application for 2017-2018!

If you want to get involved on campus and make change as a student leader, the SA New Student Representative (NSR) program is amazing opportunity for you! Through this program, you'll have the opportunity to serve on a SA committee, work with college Senators and Presidents on various projects, and help improve Rice campus and the Rice community.

In this application, you'll notice that you have the option of ranking your committee choices. A major part of the NSR experience is the committee placement. All NSRs are placed on one of the SA's Standing Committees or Student Initiatives. Current options include: Academics, Diversity & Inclusion, Environmental, Student Life, Wellbeing, or the Best Practices Student Initiative. You can read more about the committees/contact the chairs for more information here: http://sa.rice.edu/people/scc.php

By serving on an SA Committee, NSRs benefit from the mentorship and guidance of their committees chairs and have the opportunity to work on projects that interest them. NSRs will also develop a network across Rice and valuable leadership skills that will help them make a difference at Rice and in their communities.

Three NSRs are selected from each residential college by Senators and Presidents through an application and interview process. NSRs attend SA Senate with their Presidents and Senators, and although they can not vote, they play a very important role in developing committee projects and promoting the SA as student leaders.

The application is due Tuesday, August 29 at 11:59pm. Senators and Presidents will be reaching out to arrange interviews shortly after the applications close. Please put thought and consideration into your answers as the NSR application process is a competitive one. If you have any questions, please reach out to your college Senator or the SA Internal Vice President, Sara Meadow (ricesaivp@gmail.com).

IMPORTANT: All selected NSRs must attend the Welcome Dinner on Sept. 10 and the Fall Retreat on Sept. 16 for orientation purposes. Please email ricesaivp@gmail.com with any questions.

Briefly describe at least one project that you want to work on to serve the student body or Rice in general. Ideally, you should describe a project you would be passionate about working on as well as something that would help improve Rice. The project can be an event of some kind, a new service or resource to enhance the campus or quality life of students, or anything in between. There are no limitations! Be creative! :)
