SO122-KHSAA Soccer Quarterfinal Survey
Due back to KHSAA on or before Monday, February 11, 2019

The four KHSAA Soccer Quarterfinals, formerly played as semi-state games at local sites, were consolidated several years ago into four quarterfinal games for each gender, played at multiple locations in the same city area. The original intent was to expand interest and allow for more random pairings in the bracketing. However in recent years, schedule conflicts with the ACT test have caused the staff and Board of Control to desire additional input from the Soccer playing schools about the wisdom of continuing the current quarterfinal format.

With the importance of the October ACT date for scholarship opportunities and the like, the Association has had a great deal of concern expressed about this continued schedule conflict. A return to the previous format would likely lead to games being able to be played at a time of day when students could take the ACT test and have time to safely and conveniently travel with their teammates and families to a site closer to their home.

The Board of Control desires each school to express, one response per school, as to its feelings for the quarterfinal round.

OPTION A - Schools selecting Option A will be stating a preference to return to where the second round of the state tournament would be played in regional pods (Regions 1-4, 5-8, 9-12 and 13-16) and a single boys and single girls game would be played at the designated host school that meets the specifications for semi-state play in the region whose turn it is to host that game. Then, the final four would come to the state site the following week, likely utilizing the current schedule.

OPTION B - Would continue to have the four boys and four girls games played at one location (or multiple locations in the same city area) as has been done for the past few years. Choosing option B would likely not alleviate ACT conflicts due to start times necessary to complete four full length games in one day at a single venue.
