You're invited to complete the 2024 Speaker Proposal Submission Form for the SCCTM Conference being held in Columbia, South Carolina, November 21-22, 2024.                      "Stop, Collaborate, & Listen: Thinking Mathematically Together" is this year's theme.  Proposals will begin to be reviewed and accepted in June. The earlier proposals submitted will be reviewed and approved first.  Proposal due date: Aug. 1, 2024   Some submissions will go on a waiting list.  

The SCCTM 2024 Annual Conference which will be held in Columbia, South Carolin aon November 21st and 22nd. By aligning the NCTM Principles of Action with the theme "Stop, Collaborate, & Listen: Thinking Mathematically Together," the focus of the conference will be on creating a collaborative and reflective environment that enhances mathematical teaching and learning.

  1. Stop: Reflecting on Practice

    • Encourage educators to pause and reflect on their teaching practices.
    • Emphasize the need to stop and consider the effectiveness of current teaching strategies.
  2. Collaborate: Building a Mathematics Community

    • Promote collaboration among teachers to share insights, strategies, and resources.
    • Encourage collaborative lesson planning and professional development.
  3. Listen: Attending to Students’ Mathematical Thinking

    • Stress the importance of actively listening to students' mathematical ideas and reasoning.
    • Foster an environment where teachers listen to each other's perspectives to enhance teaching practices.
  4. Thinking Mathematically Together: Integrating Mathematical Practices

    • Emphasize the NCTM Standards for Mathematical Practice.
    • Encourage teachers to engage students in collaborative problem-solving and mathematical discourse.
  5. Communication: Effective Communication in Mathematics

    • Highlight the significance of clear communication in mathematical discussions.
    • Stress the value of effective communication among educators to enhance instructional strategies.
  6. Reasoning: Developing Students’ Mathematical Reasoning

    • Emphasize the cultivation of students' ability to reason mathematically.
    • Encourage collaborative activities that promote collective mathematical reasoning.
  7. Representation: Using and Connecting Mathematical Representations

    • Advocate for diverse mathematical representations and the importance of sharing these representations in collaborative settings.
    • Encourage teachers to collaboratively explore and connect different visualizations of mathematical concepts.
  8. Technology: Leveraging Technology for Mathematical Understanding

    • Emphasize the role of technology in facilitating collaborative mathematical exploration.
    • Encourage educators to share and explore innovative ways of using technology in teaching mathematics.

Upon proposal acceptance, speakers should register as a speaker online right away for scheduling and planning purposes.  Speakers will be notified during August (or earlier) about the status of their proposal acceptance.  Speakers may submit more than one proposal, but please only submit each proposal one time. Speakers registering early, will be able to choose their Day/Room/Time. The earlier that you register, the more choices are available. Later proposal submissions will be put on a waiting list. Speakers cannot be added to the program book until they have registered for the conference.

 All presentation rooms will be provided with a projector including an HDMI cable and a projection screen.  A few, very large rooms that accommodate over 60 attendees may have a microphone. You will need to bring your laptop, attach it to the project, and bring any other items such as portable speakers, or have any software  aready on your laptop that you need for your presentation. Limited free public WiFi iwill be available in the convention center. Please have a backup plan in case the internet goes down. The earlier that speakers register themselves online, the sooner that they will receive the information on room choices.
