The purpose of this form is to capture your suggestions on how we can best utilise our reserve to further the clubs objectives. Substantive suggestions will be taken to the AGM on Thursday 16th May for comment.

Background
We sold out on all 3 of our races last year, something that was uncertain 12 months ago due to the effect Covid had on club races. Our financial reserves as at 31st March 2023 was £20.6k and the forecast is for this to increase to £24k at the end of this club financial year at 31st March 2024.

In accordance with our finance policy we must retain a reserve of £7.5k to cover the cancellation cost of major events such as regular races and timing of those costs, as there may be a delay in revenue receipt from when the expenditure was incurred.

We are in a strong position financially and are looking at how best we can utilise our financial reserves in furtherance of our Constitution Objectives:-
Club Constitution Objectives

To promote an interest in running (as its primary objective) and in triathlon and related events for the residents of Thornbury and the surrounding districts.

To foster a spirit of fellowship and mutual encouragement between members of the Club.

To provide opportunities for Members to participate in organised competition.

To organise running, triathlon and related events in Thornbury.

(Please note the Constitution has not been reviewed for some years and needs refinement to reflect that we no longer promote triathlons)

Existing expenditure

Our core costs comprise of club night facilities (Leisure Centre room hire and track), EA subsidy, associations & affiliations, website, and administration costs. All other activities are subsidised by the net income from our 3 events. These subsidised activities include, annual dinner & awards, charitable donations, run & hydrate, Christmas party, cross country, Cotswold Way relay, mob match, coach & run leader training, club kit and event equipment.

Committee Suggestions
The Committee meet regularly (~every 6 weeks) and the following suggestions are already being explored:-
  1. Rebranding of the club logo
  2. Subsidised club kit to include Soft Shell jackets, Track pants, vests and t-shirts (once logo agreed)
  3. Branded coats for our coaches (to advertise our club presence - once logo agreed)
  4. An away day to include coach hire (suggestions welcome, ideally multiple races 5k up to HM)
  5. Development of a running track or other project to support running in the community (longer term)
