There is no cost to participate in the energy audit. We will help to identify opportunities to reduce energy use and costs. We will provide information on rebates, tax credits and funding available to make recommended improvements as affordable as possible.
Participation in the program is voluntary! Participants may choose whether or not to pursue any of the recommended improvements.
Please save your energy bills through the winter! It will help us evaluate potential energy and cost savings.
During the audit, we will need to…
- visually inspect the inside and outside of the house
put out any fires in wood stoves and fireplaces and cover up any ashes
access where your fridge is plugged into an outlet so we can measure its energy usage
access all rooms of the house
access the attic if there is one
access the basement or crawlspace if there is one
measure all windows and doors that lead to outside
turn on all of your combustion appliances (any appliance that uses fossil fuels such as heating oil, propane, kerosene, …) to measure their safety and efficiency
use a blower door, this can be a bit noisy and involves …
using a big fan to pull air into the house so we can find air leaks
keeping all doors and windows to outside closed and all doors inside the house open for about 30 minutes
putting all combustion appliances (any appliance that uses fossil fuels such as heating oil, propane, kerosene, …) on standby
